Sony has introduced Two-Factor Authentication support for PlayStation Network accounts. The new system allows players to keep their account secure by adding an additional level of security.
The additional layer of security can be activated via a special page on the offical PlayStation website. Once activated players will receive a verification code on their smartphone via SMS that is required to login to their account.
The system protects accounts that have their password compromised as hackers will also need access to the users smartphone to be able to log in.
The system also allows players to generate up to 10 back-up codes that can be used if they can't receive the verification code via SMS. It is unknown whether Sony will introduce other authentication methods in the future.
