Game modder Kaze Emanuar has released the first version of the Super Mario 64 multiplayer hack Super Mario 64 Online. The hack brings online multiplayer functionality to the game.
The multiplayer hack is a separate tool that players will have to run alongside their Nintendo 64 emulator. The tool takes care of all multiplayer networking and sends data to the emulator to update player positions and animations.
It is the first time that the game has seen online multiplayer on this scale. There have been other attempts in the past though those were all limited to support up to 2 player at a time.
The multiplayer hack was scheduled to release on September 28, 2017, but was released earlier tonight, likely because Emanuar finished this first version earlier than he expected.
