A software developer known online as XProger has ported a large part of the original Tomb Raider engine to WebGL. The open source project started on GitHub three months ago.
The open source project titled OpenLara allows players to play through the levels of the original title in their browser, provided they have the required files as players will have to open levels manually by loading them from their harddisk.
The project was inspired by another open source Tomb Raider project titled Open Tomb, which aims to reimplement the engines from the first five Tomb Raider games.
Both projects do not use the actual source code of the original titles, but instead were built from the ground up to perfectly emulate their original counterparts.
Those interested are able to play the original Tomb Raider using OpenLara via the project's official project webpage.
