A new gameplay video has appeared online which shows a remasted version of the original Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007. The original GoldenEye game was released 19 years ago tomorrow.
The remastered version of GoldenEye 007 was made by developer Rare back in 2008. The game was supposed to be released as Xbox Live Arcade title but never saw the light of day. The newly leaked video shows 30 minutes of gameplay footage of the remastered edition of the game.
Microsoft has never officially announced the Xbox Live Arcade release of the game because of a licensing dispute with Nintendo.
While developer Rare had ownership of all of the game's assets, Nintendo had ownership of the James Bond license. In the end Nintendo never gave green light to release the remastered GoldenEye 007 game.
In the remastered version of GoldenEye 007 players were able to switch between updated and original visuals with a click of a button.
The remaster also featured three new multiplayer maps: Dam, Frigate and Depot and the option to change multiplayer character model heights to prevent players from abusing character Oddjob because of his small character model.
The game runs on roughly the same engine as the remastered version of Perfect Dark that released for the Xbox 360 through Xbox Live Arcade back in 2010. That game also featured updated visuals and an online multiplayer mode.
Earlier this week modders released a new version of the popular total conversion shooter mod GoldenEye: Source. The mod aims to bring the classic GoldenEye multiplayer experience to the PC by recreating it in Valve's Source engine.
