The development team behind the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V total conversion mod "Liberty City in GTAV" has been forced to stop development. The news comes hours after modding tool OpenIV was also forced offline.

The total conversion modification was being developed by the same team that also developed the modding tool OpenIV. The modding tool was forced offline when the team received a cease-and-desist letter from Grand Theft Auto franchise publisher Take-Two Interactive earlier this week.

The "Liberty City in GTAV" total conversion modification allowed players to play Grand Theft Auto V in the world of Grand Theft Auto IV.

A teaser trailer for the modification was released by the OpenIV modding tool development team earlier this year. The trailer showed a large portion of the map inside the Grand Theft Auto V engine.

Because the models used in the modification are protected by copyright, alpha access players were required to own both a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto V to be able to successfully install it.

According to a recent post on a GTA fansite made by OpenIV developer GooD-NTS, the cease-and-desist letter that the OpenIV team received also ordered them to stop developing the "Liberty City in GTAV" total conversion modification.

The total conversion modification isn't the first Grand Theft Auto V map modification that was forced to stop development. A Red Dead Redemption total conversion modification for Grand Theft Auto V was also shut down last April.
