Indie development studio New World Interactive has revealed the sequel to the popular shooter game Insurgency. The game is titled Insurgency Sandstorm and was announced last year.
Insurgency Sandstorm is said to be "designed to retain what made Insurgency great, and build upon it." The first game was based on the popular Source engine modification Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat that released in 2008.
The game will come with the addition of a host of new modes and content to has yet to be revealed, including a new singleplayer story campaign. This story is playable cooperatively as a squad of up to four players, via two player split-screen, or alone.
With the new game the development studio has moved away from Valve's Source engine and is now building the game on Epic's Unreal Engine 3 to power its improved visuals.
The game's multiplayer mode is said to feature both new maps as well as remastered editions of some of the maps included in the 2014 Insurgency game.
Insurgency Sandstorm is expected to launch mid 2018 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
