The Polish National Center for Research of Development, the implementing agency of the Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education, has granted a request for funding from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt RED.

The video game developer submitted requests for funding through the GameINN programme earlier this year to be able to research several game development goals. A part of the programme's fund was granted last Friday.

The GameINN programme was created at the request of the Polish Video Games Agreement, a group of several video game developers.

The resources available under GameINN programme are to be used for the design and development of technologies such as the construction of cross-platform graphic engines, real images mapping, 3D modelling for the needs of vast virtual worlds or the application of artificial Intelligence in video games.

With the roughly $7 million US dollar funds CD Projekt RED hopes to do research on several different aspects of video game development, including city creation, seamless multiplayer, cinematic feel and animation excellence.

Several other Polish game developers have also had their requsts for funding approved, with Shadow Warrior 2 developer Wild Hog receiving nearly $1 million US dollar for the development of its RoadHog 2 game engine and Dead Island developer Techland receiving roughly equal amounts for developing a prototype for an RPG game.

CD Projekt RED will most likely make use of the received funds to further the development of the previously announced role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077.
