Shenmue 3 has been delayed to 2019, publisher Deep Silver has announced earlier today. The game was announced in 2015 via a Kickstarter campaign.
Shenmue 3 is said to be the true sequel to the classic open-world action RPG games Shenmue and Shenmue 2. The game is built upon Unreal Engine 4 to power its visuals.
The game's Kickstarter campaign raised over $6 million US with over 69,000 backers in July of 2015 and has been in development ever since. The game is currently being developed by Ys Net, an independent development studio founded by franchise creator Yu Suzuki.
The extra time will be used to "polish the quality of the game even further" to be able to meet the standards and expectations of the fans.
Shenmue 3 is now scheduled to release in 2019 for PC and PlayStation 4.
