Battle royale game Ring of Elysium has made its way out of its early access development phase, development studio Aurora Studios announced. With its official release duo matchmaking capabilities have been disabled in Europe and Asia.
Ring of Elysium is a free to play battle royale game developed by Tencent Games, making it a direct competitor to other popular games in the genre. Tencent also has a share in the development studio behind PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.
The game has been in early access for the past nine months and saw European servers being added in November 2018, which caused its popularity to increase significantly.
Despite the game now being officially released, the studio continues to make questionable decisions that arguably hinder gameplay. The latest in a long series is the decision to disable duo matchmaking in Europe and Asia due to "player feedback". It sparked significant community uproar and resulted in a significant number of negative reviews on Steam yesterday.
In addition, the recent release also introduces a separate battle royale game mode the studio calls the "Ashen Eye"; a mode in which players must remain inside a vortex that moves around the map.
