Valve fansite ValveTime has released screenshots of what appears to be an early version of a map that was developed for a cancelled Half-Life 2 episode.
The screenshots were posted after one of the website's users received original map files from an undisclosed source. The map files were opened in a map editor to allow users to see what the map contains without having to run it in the game's Source engine.
The episodic content was in development at Junction Point Studios, an independent videogame studio established in 2004 by Warren Spector and Art Min, the latter of whom had previously worked at Valve.
The episodic content was supposed to "fill in one of the gaps in the Half-Life universe" and would include a new type of weapon called the Magnet Gun that would complement the iconic gravity gun.
According to the forum post, the cancelled episode would take place in a snow-themed version of Ravenholm which would include small puzzles, scripted sequences, and fights.
In the leaked map the player would crash into a warehouse while being inside a cablecar. He wakes up in a room with two unknown characters named Duncan and Scooter. The map also contains a train station, several other buildings and a group of rebels and Combine Soldiers fighting on the streets.
