An update for the racing game Gran Turismo Sport has introduced a microtransaction system to the game. The system allows players to purchase vehicle unlocks.

The new 1.23 July update was primarily advertised as introducing the new Sainte-Croix Circuit, decal expansions for helmets and gear, and eight new vehicles, including the Mercedes F1 and the Mazda 787B.

However, the most surprising new feature, that is curiously missing from the July update YouTube video, is a microtransaction system that allows players to purchase cars directly through the PlayStation Store.

All vehicles in the game that cost less than 2,000,000 in-game Cr. can now be purchased. The current ability to unlock vehicles purely with in-game currency will remain available.

The Gran Turismo Sport microtransaction system will be available in North America starting July 30, 2018, and in Europe starting August 2, 2018.
