Valve has released a free-to-play edition of its shooter game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. The edition allows players to try out some aspects of the game free of charge.

In the Free Edition players are able to play offline against a team of bots and spectate matches through GOTV. All other features remain unavailable until players purchase the game.

The original game is still on sale as well and is now listed as the Full Edition that enables all other features at the price tag of $14.99 US in North America and €12.49 in Europe.

The introduction of the Free Edition is part of Valve's efforts to grow the game's competitive e-sports community.
