Rare has released a new behind the scenes video for upcoming pirate adventure game Sea of Thieves. In the new video the developers of the game discuss the sword combat mechanics included in the game.
In the video Design Director Gregg Mayles and Senior Engineer John Watkins discuss the way sword combat is being implemented in the game. The video includes behind the scenes footage of how the developers are able to test new gameplay mechanics by simulating a network game by running two clients on the same machine.
The editor used to create the game even allows the developers to activate a fake netcode latency that allows them to accurately simulate real multiplayer gameplay.
The initial sword combat mechanics are basic in the sense that players are able to swing a sword to hit objects and other players. The combat mechanics will change depending on the feedback that the developer gets via the game's Insider testing program.
Sea of Thieves features extensive multiplayer co-op capabilities in which players must work together to control a pirate ship. Players will face enemies and battle enemy ships by using their ship's cannons.
Sea of Thieves is expected to sometime later this year for PC and Xbox One.
