Mojang has announced it has ceased development of the Minecraft Super Duper Graphics Pack update. The update was announced in 2017.

The Super Duper Graphics Pack was supposed to bring new shaders and 4K resolution rendering to the Xbox One version of the game. The PC version of the game already supported 4K resolution rendering and custom shaders.

In November 2017 the studio stated that it needed more time to develop the update because there is "still a lot of work to be done", and declined to comment on the update ever since. The studio now confirms it will stop development of the graphical update.

The studio now states that it ceased development because it was unhappy with how the graphical pack performed across devices, indicating that consoles and mobile devices were unable to keep up with the higher graphical fidelity.

The graphical update was supposed to release for all platforms supporting "massive servers", including PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS and several virtual reality devices.

The studio is currently working on Minecraft Dungeons, for which it released a gameplay trailer earlier this year. The game is scheduled to release in the spring of 2020 for PC and Xbox One.
