The multiplayer functionality of the 2005 original Star Wars: Battlefront 2 has been restored following talks between GOG and Disney. The game's multiplayer component has been disabled since 2013.
The multiplayer component of the game stopped working when multiplayer server browser and server hoster GameSpy shut down. The community of the game has relied on third-party master servers until now.
In a recent press release GOG has announced that the game has received a critical update that is powered by GOG Galaxy, allowing the game's multiplayer functionality to be restored and adding support for crossplay between the GOG and Steam versions of the game.
The 2005 original is considered to be superior to any of the Star Wars games released by EA Games thus far because it includes more content and features than the 2017 version, including community-hosted dedicated server support that hasn't been available in any EA Games title since 2010.
