Rockstar Games has acquired Indian game development studio Dhruva Interactive from Starbreeze. The studio is located in the same city as Rockstar India.
According to a recent announcement, Dhruva Interactive will now operate as part Rockstar India, a merger of Technicolor India and Rockstar Games located in Bangalore.
Technicolor India had worked on Rockstar Games titles since 2012 and was rebranded Rockstar India in 2016. That studio worked on Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3.
Now that Dhruva Interactive has merged with Rockstar India, the studio will continue operating to deliver on future Rockstar Games products. Dhruva Interactive has contributed to the development of games from several major studios and publishers.
Over the past few years, outsourcing software development to India is increasing in popularity due to lower wages. A good software developer in the U.S. can cost anywhere from $50 to $80 an hour. In comparison, the hourly cost of a software developer in India can be negotiated down to as low as $15 per hour.
