Months after hitting the global market the PlayStation 4 is now finally available in Japan. Just three hours ago the clock struck midnight in Japan, Sony's home region. The console sells for 39,980 yen in Japan, roughly $390 USD.

Sony celebrated the launch in Japan with a midnight launch event featuring speeches from various Sony executives as well as game designers like Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima though the event was seemingly not as big as other Sony events or announcements.

Meanwhile gaming stores in the UK report that the popular gaming system's supply remains limited for at least April. The Playstation 4 is now available in 49 countries worldwide and has sold over 5.3 million units as of February 8.
