MMORPG Blade & Soul to "disable" Xigncode3 anti-cheat with update

MMORPG game Blade & Soul will disable anti-cheat software Xigncode3 with its latest update. It is still unknown what security measures will replace the software.

According to recent patch notes, the new Scarlet Tears update will be completely disabling Xigncode3. The anti-cheat software is controversial because of its invasive nature.

Xigncode3 is similar to many other anti-cheat software, including EasyAntiCheat and BattlEye. However, the software contains many additional checks that some argue invades  privacy, including reading hard drive USN journals to monitor which files were created or accessed last.

The software has also been under scrutiny by software security analysts who have argued that its kernel mode driver xhunter1 is exploitable for privilege escalation.

The patch notes don't provide an answer to the question what system will replace the game's current anti-cheat measures.
