HTC has shown a new accessory for its virtual reality headset, the HTC Vive, at CES 2017 that allows physical objects to be tracked and used in virtual reality.

HTC showed the accessory in one of its demo booths that the company had set up at the Consumers Electronics Show 2017 in Las Vegas, USA. The so-called Tracker accessory allows players to make use of physical objects in virtual reality by tracking its movement in 3D space.

In the demo booths several usecases were shown, including a full-automatic weapon that was used in a first person shooter game and a fire hose that was used in a firefighter training simulation exercise.

HTC has also announced that it will be giving away over a thousand Trackers accessories to developers worldwide. The accessory is also expected to be available for consumers this summer.
