Microsoft has revealed its own virtual reality motion controller that can be used in combination with Windows Mixed Reality compatible headsets.

The new controllers were revealed via a short teaser video that was released last Thursday. The video gives a first look at the features that are incorporated in the controller's design.

Just like the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift controllers, the controller from Microsoft features a band of LEDs for Optical Tracking, to allow the controller to the tracked in 3D space, as well as a trigger button, a grab button, a thumbstick, and a touchpad.

The implementation of Optical Tracking in Windows Mixed Reality compatible headsets is different than traditional tracking, because unlike the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets the headset is able to track controllers by utilizing the sensors included inside the headset itself.

The new controller is expected to be available later this year and will be included in bundles of Windows Mixed Reality compatible headsets.
