The free-form melee and ranged combat is said to give players "complete control" over their character and attacks to develop their own play style. Character customization is also available and can be used to create weapons from parts and pick out armor pieces.

The game is said to feature a huge arsenal of weapons and equipment, including greatswords, crossbows, machetes and axes, which can be used as players siege fortifications. Siege weaponry is also included in the form of catapults and ballistas.

The game was developed by indie development studio Triternion, a small international team of independent developers from Austria, Canada, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden. The game was announced in 2015 and has been in development ever since.

Mordhau released on April 29, 2019, exclusively for PC.
