Microsoft has reverted the publishing rights of the Alan Wake brand back to its original developer Remedy Entertainment. The studio also received a one-time 2.5 million euro royalty payout.
The reacquisition of the Alan Wake publishing rights means the studio is now free to develop and publish new Alan Wake games. Earlier this year the studio already reacquired the intellectual property rights of the franchise.
In addition to the re-acquisition, the studio also received a one-time 2.5 million euro royalty payout for previously published games such as Quantum Break and Control.
Remedy Entertainment was founded in 1995 and between 1999 and 2005 it worked on the Max Payne franchise.
Alan Wake was released in 2010 for PC and Xbox 360. Two years later it released the spin-off Alan Wake's American Nightmare.
