Nvidia claims uncertified FreeSync monitors may produce blurry graphics and flickering when G-Sync is enabled with its upcoming GeForce driver. The company showcased this with a demo at CES 2019.
According to the demo, certain monitors that are uncertified, or non-validated as Nvidia displays it, can produce unexpected results when users turn on G-Sync. The model and brand of the monitors used in the demo were not clearly labeled.
The unexpected results come in the form of both blurry graphics when players look around and flickering in the form of the screen intermittently turning black; a sign that Nvidia claims means the monitors don't fully support its proprietary software G-Sync.
Whether the monitors also displayed similar behavior with AMD's FreeSync enabled was not mentioned. However, online, users are heavily speculating whether the issues may be caused by Nvidia's own GeForce driver rather than the display itself.
Last week Nvidia announced that it would start supporting a limited amount of FreeSync monitors, provided they successfully undergo the company's validation tests.
Support for G-Sync compatible monitors will begin on January 15, 2019, with the launch of the first 2019 Game Ready driver.
