NVIDIA has released a video showcasing the PC version of DOOM running on a Geforce GTX card that supports Vulkan API. Utilizing Vulkan allows DOOM to run at a smooth 60 frames per second at 1080P resolution. In addition developers of the game state that the game can run up to 200 frames per second, depending on the player's hardware.
Vulkan is a low-overhead, cross-platform 3D graphics and compute API first announced at GDC 2015 by the Khronos Group. The API is based on AMD's Mantle API, which was donated by AMD to Khronos with the intent of giving Khronos a foundation on which to begin developing a low-level API that they could standardize across the gaming industry.
Current Geforce cards also have support for Vulkan API through NVIDIA's driver updates. DOOM is scheduled to launch tomorrow, May 13th, for PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4.
