The original co-creators of the DOOM franchise, John Romero and Adrian Carmack, have started a new development studio called Night Work Games. The studio will be announcing their first title this coming Monday, April 25th. Romero and Carmack are one of the four founders of id Software, the studio that is currently working on the reboot of the DOOM franchise.
At id Software John Romero was mostly responsible for games such as Doom, Doom II: Hell on Earth, Quake, Commander Keen and Wolfenstein 3D. He served as executive producer and game designer on Heretic and Hexen. He designed most of the first episode of Doom, most of the levels in Quake and Wolfenstein: 3D: Spear of Destiny and wrote many development tools such as the DOOM level editor better known as DoomEd.
Adrian Carmack was forced out of id Software in September of 2005 when he, as co-founder of the company, decided to decline a $105 million takeover bid from Activision while two other partners were seeking to accept the bid. Carmack sued id Software not long after, the outcome of the lawsuit was never publicly revealed.
Though the exact title of the game remains under wraps until next Monday, the website of Night Work Games does show that the studio is working on a new first person shooter. "a new First-Person Shooter is being built at Night Work Games Ltd. in Galway, Ireland." the website reads.
Earlier this week the multiplayer component for the next game in the DOOM franchise titled "DOOM" received thousands of negative reviews following the launch of the open beta for the component.
