The upcoming space MMO game Star Citizen has hit a new funding milestone earlier this week. Development studio Cloud Imperium Games has now collected over $200 million US to develop the game.
The funding campaign started in 2012 and has been open ever since. The game was also listed on Kickstarter for several months where it collected roughly $2,000,000 US, successfully hitting all stretch goals.
Players who fund development of the game will get access to more content and features, including several alpha and beta test builds before its release. The game itself still doesn't have an official release date, despite being in development for over six years.
The current alpha build of Star Citizen is version 3.3. The game's singleplayer campaign titled Squadron 42 is still in development and isn't available to backers.
