THQ Nordic has announced that it has acquired the rights to the Outcast franchise from its original creators. The publisher didn't comment on what it intends to do with the rights.
Two years ago, publisher Bigben Interactive worked with the game's creators to release a remake of
Outcast: Second Contact. The game was developed by the same studio that worked on the original title in 1999, Appeal Studio.

A sequel to the original game was already in development in the early 2000s and was titled
Outcast 2: The Lost Paradise. The game was planned to be released in 2004 for Windows and PlayStation 2, but was put on hold due to financial struggles.
Outcast: Second Contact released on November 14, 2017, for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
