Nintendo has announced that it has restarted development of Metroid Prime 4. The game was announced in 2017 but significant progress was never shown.
According to a recent announcement, the current version of the game "has not reached the standards we [Nintendo, ed.] seek in a sequel". The company states it will now "restart development from the beginning".
The development studio that worked on the original Metroid Prime, Retro Studios, will take over the development of the next entry in the franchise. The studio will work with Kensuke Tanabe as producer for the game. Tanabe was also the producer for the original game.
The last Metroid game was titled Metroid Prime: Federation Force and released in 2016 for Nintendo 3DS.
Metroid Prime 4 will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive title.
