Microsoft has revealed the next generation of its HoloLens mixed reality headset. HoloLens 2 is said to be more comfortable and immersive.

The next generation of the headset is focusing on "business-ready solutions" and seems to be moving away from its previous gaming focus. Gamers will remember the HoloLens as part of Microsoft's E3 2015 Minecraft presentation.

The device is different than traditional virtual reality headsets such as the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift because its primary goal is providing mixed reality experiences. This is done by positioning computer-generated imagery over real world environments.

The second generation features several improvements over the original. The most important change is that the headset is now fully untethered. Its visuals are now powered by its integrated computer featuring full Wi-Fi connectivity.

HoloLens 2 carries a $3,500 US price tag and can be purchased with Dynamics 365 Remote Assist for $125 per user, per month.
