New HTC Vive accessory allows wireless virtual reality experience

A new accessory available via the Chinese version of the official HTC Vive website allows gamers to use their HTC Vive virtual reality headset without the need for cables to transmit the video signal.
It is the first time that a PC-capable virtual reality headset is usable wirelessly. Virtual reality headsets that depend on mobile phone displays were already able to deliver a wireless virtual reality experience, but lacked the processing power that is available on the PC.

In the box gamers will find a transmitter device, a receiver that connects to the HTC Vive, a power box that feeds power to the receiver, and various cables to connect the transmitter device to the PC.
The accessory was available for preorder with the first batch to be shipped in the first quarter of 2017. As of writing the website is no longer accepting new preorders, likely due to overwhelming interest.
