Blizzard has confirmed it will release World of Warcraft Classic in August. The classic version will be available to all paying World of Warcraft players. A closed beta starts on Wednesday.

World of Warcraft Classic is a faithful recreation of the original World of Warcraft: it runs a bit smoother on today’s PCs, but the game still looks and feels like you’re playing World of Warcraft from 2006.

Players who already have a World of Warcraft subscription can sign up for the closed beta test. Blizzard will randomly select participants for this first a small-scale test. The studio will invite more players at a later date. These tests take place between May and July.

The classic version of the game is said to offer the authentic 2006 gameplay, combined with the modern server infrastructure, social features and support for new hardware. It is based on version 1.12 of the game.

World of Warcraft Classic releases on August 27, 2019, but not all content is released at once. The release schedule indicates that there are six different phases. The first phase will start in August. The release dates of the remaining pieces of content were not announced yet.
