In an article published by Asahi Shinbun, a Japanese newspaper, Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima reportedly said that the company is seeking to release a feature film in the next 2 to 3 years.

The film is expected to feature Nintendo's popular videogame franchises such as Super Mario and Zelda.

Kimishima says he expects the company to do "as much as possible by itself", indicating the company is not interested in outsourcing their franchise rights to triple-A hollywood studios. For the development of feature films Nintendo is reportedly setting up a separate film branch that will solely focus on the creation of the films.

The newspaper suggests that the company is working on a 3D animation feature film in which several characters from Nintendo franchises are expected to make an appearance.
