New rumours that are surfacing online indicate that the Nintendo Switch may feature GameCube virtual console support. The mode would allow the handheld console to play Nintendo GameCube titles.

According to the rumours Nintendo is already testing the virtual console with several titles, including Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Animal Crossing.

Nintendo is also rumoured to be looking into supporting gamers who have already purchased several GameCube titles. Players may be able to unlock the GameCube games on the Nintendo Switch for a low price.

The company is also experimenting with a special GameCube disc reader that verifies ownership, but it is currently unknown if the device will actually be available in stores when the Nintendo Switch launches.
