Original Half-Life game gets new update to address crashes and security issues
Wednesday, July 12, 2017 - 10:29 GMT

Valve has released a new update for the original Half-Life. The update focuses on fixing several crashes and security issues that have been reported over the past few months.

The new update fixes two crashes that occur when entering malformed strings into the game's developer console and two security holes that allowed specially crafted and malformed map and save game files to write data to the game's data folder without permission.

The update is likely released because Valve doesn't want the game to be exploited for malicious uses. If left unpatched, specially crafted malware could have potentially targeted those who still play the game regularly.

Half-Life first released in in 1998 for PC. The game has seen numerous updates since its release. The last update prior to this latest one was released in 2013.

This comment has been removed. Interesting to see they still update the game for things like this.
