Development studio Bungie has announced that it has parted ways with its publishing partner Activision. The studio will retain the rights of its Destiny franchise.
According to a recent press release, the studio has decided to cease its partnership with Activision in favor of self-publishing. The studio will retain all rights to the Destiny brand and all current games and content will continue to be available via Activision Blizzard's Battle.net store.
The split between the two parties may have been caused by the studio's unwillingness to abide by certain terms stipulated in the contract between the two. Reportedly, one of these terms was an annual release schedule for new entries in the franchise.
The press release further states that both Bungie and Activision are committed to making sure the handoff is "as seamless as possible".
