Valve has announced that it will start acting against Steam gambling sites. The company states that gambling websites are not permitted to utilize Steam's OpenID API to make the same web calls as Steam users to run a gambling business.
Steam gambling became popular over the last few months as more and more players started gambling on matches of official CounterStrike: Global Offensive competitions. By gambling on the matches' potential outcome players were able to acquire skins that are usually sold for high prices.
Earlier this month it became apparent that two popular YouTube channels "TmarTn" and "ProSyndicate" were involved in operating gambling websites.
The two YouTube stars advertised their gambling websites without disclosing the fact that they were also the founder. The two had access to the websites' back-end systems, potentially allowing them to maximize profits.
