Valve has released a new profile privacy setting for its distribution and DRM platform Steam. The setting gives users more control over their Steam account privacy.

According to a recent announcement, the new privacy settings will allow users to see "detailed descriptions" of what profile information is included in each category and give them the tools to manage how they are viewed by their friends or the wider Steam Community.

Users will be able to select who can view their profile's game details, which l includes the list of games purchased or wishlisted, along with achievements and time played. The setting will also affect whether other users will be able to see you as "in-game" and what title you are playing.

Another option controls gives control over whether you wish to make public the total time played per game regardless of the previously mentioned game details setting.

The company notes it is still working on providing additional privacy options, such as the ability to sign into Steam with the "invisible" status to allow players to continue to send and receive messages without appearing online.
