The first trailer for the film adaption of the Assassin's Creed franchise has just recently been released. A movie adaption of the franchise has been rumored for years though now it seems that a movie is definitely in the pipelines. Assassin's Creed is set in the same universe as the video games and is expected to be released December 21st this year.
Development for the film began in October 2011, when Sony Pictures entered final negotiations with Ubisoft Motion Pictures to make the film. In July 2012, Michael Fassbender was announced to star in the film, as well as co-produce the film. His role was revealed in August 2015 as Callum Lynch, who's ancestor Aguilar, is an assassin from 15th Century Spain.
Film adaptions of video game stories are notorious for straying off the path of the video game's original storyline, often resulting in poor reviews and box office sales. Whether that is the case with Assassin's Creed still remains to be seen though the first trailer does not make a good first impression.
