Battlefield 1 developer EA Dice has released new information on horse gameplay. Battlefield 1 is the first Battlefield title that features rideable horses.
According to the developer the horses will be effective in close-quarters combat. Their speed and agility means they can trample enemies under their powerful hooves, and they’ll get players close enough to slash them down with a saber. If players prefer to stay back a bit, they will have access to powerful rifles for medium range combat that can be fired from horseback.
Horses can even be effective in anti-vehicle assaults by using grenades whilst passing through. Players can run in circles around slower mechanized vehicles and harass them with explosives.
Horses also have a secondary use as a mobile supply station, making them versatile in pretty much every combat situation. Players will be able to drop ammo and bandages from saddlebags to assist team members and help them stay in the fight.
Earlier this week EA Dice announced that the development studio will launch the open beta test for Battlefield 1 in August.
Battlefield 1 launches on October 21st for PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4.
