A new patch for the popular shooter game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has removed the iconic Dust 2 map from the game's competitive map pool. The map has been replaced by Inferno.

The new game patch that was released yesterday states that the map Dust 2 has been replaced with the map Inferno in the Active Duty Group. The patch also added a separate Dust 2 map group for Casual and Deathmatch game modes.

The iconic map has been part of the competitive Counter-Strike scene for over 16 years since it first released in March 2001 as a free addition to Counter-Strike 1.1.

Valve has not officially commented on the removal of the map, but it is speculated that it was removed from the competitive map pool because the map was too popular, overshadowing the game's other maps.

Another unconfirmed reason for pulling the map may be related to possible scheduled maintenance. The Inferno map, which has now taken Dust 2's spot on the list, was also pulled from the Active Duty Group mid 2016 and came back in October 2016 when it received a detailed graphical rework.
