Gamers who have purchased the PC version of Prey are reporting that the shooter game does not include a Field of View slider. The option was one of the advanced graphics settings that was advertised before the launch of the game.
According to Bethesda, the Field of View slider did not make it into the final retail version of the game because the development studio "found some bugs" during the "final phases of testing". The studio claims it needs more time to address the issues before it "officially supports" the option.
As a workaround, the development studio recommends gamers to change game files manually by editing an engine configuration text file. The default horizontal field of view in the PC version of the game is 85, but can be replaced with values up to 120.
The configuration file that needs to be changed to unlock a higher horizontal field of view is located in the folder "c:\users\Saved Games\Arkane Studios\Prey\" and is named game.cfg. The file can be opened with any normal text editor.
To achieve a higher horizontal field of view gamers have to increase the value of the "cl_hfov" parameter in the configuration file. Once changed, players must restart the game for it to have effect.
Bethesda states that the graphics setting will be accessible via the Options menu in a coming update, but did not give us an expected release date.
Prey launched earlier today for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The horizontal field of view graphics setting will not be coming to consoles.
