ArenaNet has revealed the contents of the second Guild Wars 2 expansion pack Path of Fire. The expansion pack will take players back to Elona and The Crystal Desert.

The expansion pack was officially revealed via a YouTube livestream earlier today in which ArenaNet CEO and co-founder Mike O'brien discussed the work that has gone into the new content.

In Guild Wars 2 Path of Fire players will travel to Elona and The Crystal Desert where they will experience the continuation of the story that was set out in the game's third Living World Season. The last episode of the season was released last week.

A return to Elona was already expected since the contents of the expansion pack were leaked online in May of this year. Advertisements for the new expansion pack were also inadvertently running too early, revealing that players would be returning to "The Land of Nightfall and The Crystal Desert".

The biggest new feature introduced in the second expansion pack is mounts. When riding on mounts players will have access to a range of new skills and abilities that aid them in travel and combat.

Mounts will not be limited to the new expansion areas but will instead be available in all existing areas, including those from the standard game.

It is expected that the game's in-game store, the Gemstore, will feature a variety of purchasable mounts after the release of the expansion pack, similarly to Heart of Thorns glider skins.

In total players will get to explore five large new maps as they advance through the expansion pack's story chapters.

The second expansion pack also features nine new elite specializations for all of the existing classes.

For those who primarily focus on the competitive Player versus Player and World versus World game modes the expansion pack seems to be rather lackluster because these modes will not be getting expansion content.

This is likely because the studio did not want to lock competitive players out by limiting access to new features and content to expansion pack owners only.

For these competitive game modes new content will be released with normal game updates similarly to current game updates, though new content has yet to be announced.

The Standard Edition will retail for $29.99 in North America and €29.99 in Europe.

The Deluxe Edition will cost $54.99 and €54.99 respectively and includes an additional character slot, an Identity Repair Kit, a Spearmarshal's Garb outfit unlock and the Lily of the Elon Permanent Pass that grants players access to a new VIP vendor outpost.

There will be two preview weekend events with the first one taking place on August 11th that allows players to explore part of the new maps and experience mounts.

The second preview event takes place a week later and allows players to try out the new elite specializations in the competitive Player versus Player and World versus World game modes.

The Guild Wars 2 Path of Fire expansion pack launches on September 22nd exclusively for PC and Mac.
