Valve has announced Digital Gift Cards for its distribution platform Steam. With the cards friends can gift each other a certain amount of money to be spent in the Steam Store.

The value of the new Digital Cift Cards range between $5 all the way up to $100. Once activated, the currency will go in the user's Steam Wallet which can then be used to purchase products on Steam.

The Digital Gift Cards can only be sent to the friends that you have added to your friends list. The system also checks if the friend you are trying to send a Digital Gift Card to has been a friend for more than three days.

Steam users were already able to gift each other products, but the new Digital Gift Card system allows receivers to choose a product themselves.
