Square Enix has announced new free Final Fantasy XV downloadable content for the console versions of the game. The pack features content from the Assassins Creed franchise.

Starting on August 31, 2017, until January 31, 2018, players can partake in a limited time event titled "Assassin's Festival".

The event features gameplay elements from the Assassin's Creed franchise, mini-games, and a chance to obtain exclusive items, such as the "Medjay Assassin's Robes" for Noctis, Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto.

The new downloadable content is the first Final Fantasy XV content pack to feature crossover content from another video games franchise.

The announcement of the "Assassin's Festival" content was met with mixed responses with some fans questioning why Square Enix decided to focus on a collabaration with Ubisoft instead of working on new singleplayer story content.

It is likely that Square Enix and Ubisoft have signed a strategic partnership to market the upcoming release of Assassin's Creed: Origins via Final Fantasy XV. How much Ubisoft paid for the promotion is still unknown.

The "Master Assassin's Robes" for Noctis can be obtained via the Dream Egg, a special item from the Moogle Chocobo Carnival. The Moogle Chocobo Carnival is the current in-game event and will end in late September.

Earlier this week Square Enix also announced that Final Fantasy XV will be making its way to the PC in early 2018.
