Valve has announced that it will be releasing an update for the free-to-play shooter Team Fortress 2 that brings competitive modes to the game.

The update called "Meet your Match" will bring a new "Competitive Mode", a ranked 6 vs 6 players game mode featuring all nine classes and a "Casual Mode", an updated 12 vs 12 players quickplay mode that will put players into matches as they start instead of in the middle of an existing one.

The update also brings 18 new ranked titles that players can earn. The ranks will be determined by both wins and losses and players can rank down over time if their gameplay deteriorates.

The new update is free for all players who have either bought the original game before it went free-to-play or for players who have purchased items from the in-game Mann Co store. In addition Valve will introduce as Competitive Access Pass that players can purchase for €10.00 to gain access to the update.

Valve has not yet given a release date for the update.
