Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has given an estimated price for the online subscription service included in the Nintendo Switch. The service will be required to play games online.

In an interview with the Japanese newspaper Nikkei Kimishima states that the price for the subscription service will be between ¥2000 Yen and ¥3000 Yen annually, which roughly converts to $17 USD and $27 USD respectively.

Gamers that want to play Nintendo Switch games online will be required to pay the yearly subscription fee to connect to the multiplayer servers.

According to Kimishima the subscription fee is used to make it easier for Nintendo to support online features such as multiplayer and downloads of classic games in the future.

When the handheld console launches on March 3rd 2017 all online features will be available for free for a limited time only. The subscription fee will go in affect in the fall of this year.

Nintendo has not yet released a full list of features that will be locked away behind the the subscription fee, but online multiplayer has been confirmed to be included. Subscribers of the service are also expected to get a free classic game every per month.
