The continued rise of ad blockers means we are forced to adapt our ways. Starting this week our premium subscription service will change to better support our efforts.
The decline of online advertising and the rise of ad blockers means the constant costs associated with independent journalism becomes increasingly difficult to carry. This results in less news being reported and less feature articles being published. Those who have been with us for the past eight years will have noticed a sharp decline in our reporting in the last several weeks due to our limited budget.
Starting December 13, 2019, we will be rolling out metered access to all existing and upcoming articles. Readers who do not wish to support us with a premium subscription will still be able to read five articles per month, excluding orange labeled premium articles. Unrestricted access is available for our subscribers along with several other benefits, such as sharing premium articles with friends and browsing without ads.
The subscription service will continue to support both a monthly and yearly plan with options to purchase without recurring billing. However, the contribution amount will be reduced from €86.29 per year to €59.99 per year. The monthly plan will not see a similar price reduction due to taxes and administration costs and will stay at €7.99 per month.
In addition, those who have subscribed to us between December 13, 2018, and December 13, 2019, and renew their subscription before January 31, 2020, will get an additional three months added to their account free of charge.
All changes mentioned in this article are reflected on the updated premium subscription page. Thank you for supporting us.
