Indie adventure game RiME to ditch Denuvo anti-piracy technology after game gets cracked in just five days
Friday, June 2, 2017 - 09:52 GMT

Indie development studio Tequila Works has announced that it will be removing the anti-piracy software Denuvo from their adventure game RiME following the release of a crack for the game.

Before the release of the game, many gamers complained about the inclusion of the anti-piracy software Denuvo in the indie title, claiming that it slows down game loading speeds and affects frame rates.

In response to the requests from fans to remove the technology before the launch of the game, the development studio promised it would remove the software if a crack was released that would allow gamers to play illegitimately obtained copies.

There is a small performance hit associated with this [Ed: Denuvo], but at this time we do not believe it is causing the problems that are currently being reported.

Software engineers took the promise of the indie development studio as a challenge. The indie title was released on May 26th 2017 and roughly five days later, on June 1st 2017, a crack for the game was subsequently released.

The indie development studio has now confirmed that it will be removing the anti-piracy software from the game via a free game update.

Whether the removal of the software will positively affect gameplay as some gamers are suggesting remains to be seen.
