Bigben Interactive has announced it has acquired the rights to use and develop the Test Drive brand from Atari. The game publisher is planning to develop new titles for the franchise.
The last Test Drive game Test Drive Unlimited 2 was released in 2011 and was popular for its unique massive multiplayer online system, which developer Eden Games dubbed Massively Open Online Racing, or MOOR.
In the announcement Bigben Interactive CEO Alain Falc states that the company is "more than confident with respect to the quality of this franchise, which is loved by so many players," and also states that their development teams are "very enthusiastic at the idea of being able to work on this license."
Test Drive Unlimited 2 was the final game in the franchise released by Eden Games before the studio was shut down by Atari in 2013. The game sold over 1.8 million copies worldwide.
