The game originally released in 2003 for the PC and received significant popularity for its multiplayer component, which was played extensively for many years after its release.

The re-release on both platforms is only available as a digital download. A physical release was not announced. The game currently retails for US$19.99 in North America and €23.99 in Europe.

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy released on March 26, 2020, for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
